"…home….." Box Hill Community Arts Centre 2009 Biennial National Art Competition.
'....home....'
- The competition, for both 2d and 3d artwork, is advertised nationally, with the finalists (approximately 40 – 50 short listed entries) being exhibited at the Box Hill Community Arts Centre from the 18 – 30 August 2009.
- The winner receives a $3000 cash prize and a two-week exhibition at the Box Hill Community Arts Centre in 2010.
- The theme this year has been designed to attract attention and stimulate discussion of what '…home…' means to the diverse community of Australia in an ever changing cultural, economic and political climate.
- The judging panel consisted of 5 judges from the art industry, where approximately 50 works will be selected to be included in the exhibition. The Judging Criteria is based on three areas:
- Response to the theme of '…home…'
- Creativity of expression
- Application of technique
The winner of the 2007 art competition was Liz Low, who produced an innovative porcelain, paper and glass artwork depicting the changing weather patterns in Australia, based on the competition’s theme of ‘Water, water everywhere…’.
“ I found that winning a national art competition enhanced my professional standing. In particular, it was very pleasing to have had two pieces acquired by the City of Whitehorse. Firstly, the winning entry, ‘...with rain falling out to sea.' and the second one, a piece from my 2008 exhibition, which was part of the very generous prize,” Liz said.
The winning entry of the first competition ‘Celebrations’ in 2005 was ‘Red Delights’ by artist Sue McFarland. Sue said the positive effects on her artistic career after winning the competition had been tremendous, with her artwork going on to be exhibited and included in catalogues internationally.
