I was a member of the Box Hill Clayworkers from about 1998. I joined while still studying ceramics at Holmesglen College. It was a wonderful way for us to continue out clay practices outside of college, with likeminded people in a very nurturing space.
It is a unique centre because it is a purpose built art space, not just a hall or part of a local community centre. It allows artistic people to follow their passions in well thought out studio areas.
After a couple of years as a member of the Clayworkers it was my privilege to be able to teach at the centre. I first started teaching children during the school holidays and then adult classes during the term. I think I taught for about 10 years and enjoyed every minute of it. It is wonderful to see the Art Centre reach its 30th birthday. My only regret is that we can’t celebrate in person.
