Box Hill Community Arts Centre has always had a very special place in my heart. It was there that I launched my creative spirit as an emerging artist through being part of the Artist in Residence Program back in 1998/99. I had a studio space upstairs, above the Ceramic Room and I looked across the treetops as I worked on a series of paintings, drawings, etchings and sculptures that explored the theme of sustainability. The subsequent exhibition “In the Balance” was held in the beautiful gallery at the Centre in June, 1999. The paintings on display surveyed the vast, beautiful landscapes of the high country around Thredbo and were juxtaposed against aluminium and ceramic sculptures, drawings and etchings that explored the notion of living sustainably on a global scale. Concurrently, I tutored art classes to young and inspiring artists.
BHCAC is a beautiful, creative hub that brings likeminded spirits together to learn, explore and celebrate artistic endeavours across many disciplines. It is an exciting and vibrant Centre full of wonderful people, who collectively nurture the creative soul. Over the years, I have been involved with the life drawing group and more recently have been tutoring ceramics, art and printmaking. I have loved working with children and adults exploring the different mediums and witnessing their art making.
Congratulations to everyone at BHCAC on successfully becoming the heart and soul of the local community!
