Indigo Shibori Fabric Dying

  • 1 day course 3 May, 2020

Learn about the art of Japanese Shibori with Indigo Dye. Shibori is a resist dyeing method of creating crisp, repeating and organic patterns on cloth. In this workshop, we will be using methods including Itajime – folding and clamping, Arashi – pole wrapping and Ori-nui -folded hand stitched pleating. Experiment with different techniques throughout the workshop on cotton fabric while we learn about the wonders of blue dye and create a class indigo vat. Choose your favourite Shibori technique to dye a linen tea-towel or tote bag to take home. On the day there will be extra tea-towels and tote bags to purchase for yourself or to give away as gifts. Leave feeling inspired and with the confidence to create your own indigo vat at home.

Participants take home an information sheet, their various dyed fabric samples and their finished tea towel/bag.
